Mérida

In collaboration with the office of Joel Escalona and the consulting firm delaO design studio, Jorge Diego Etienne presents the Mérida collection of containers for the company Libbey.

Tradition and modernity in the same object. Mérida is our most recent collaboration with Libbey, the most important producer of glass consumer objects on the American continent. This collection of glass containers takes up elements of one of the most representative creation techniques of Mexican culture: the weaving of natural fibers.

Since the time of pre-Hispanic civilizations and until today, containers and all types of objects have been woven in different materials to accompany people in their daily lives. That is the idea that led us to use the texture commonly found in hand-woven objects in industrially produced pieces, thus mixing centuries of tradition with current methods of mass production.

This project is the result of a design collaboration with Joel Escalona's office, as well as with the consultancy delaO design studio to achieve a rich process in research, design and development with the intention of producing thousands of pieces to reach the greatest number of possible homes, with a product that not only speaks of the past, but also represents the relevance of design in the national industry.
